Leader 200-end

Has the book changed your opinion about Canadian history?
Yes, because it has made it a lot clearer. It gave Alexander a unique perspective on the birth of the country.
How do you feel about how Canada was created?
Looking back at the history of Canada, it is interesting to see how all of the provinces and all of the territories came together and how Canada was shaped. The central government did not respect all of the people living in Canada.
Canadians have been known to be not as discriminatory as other countries; does this change your opinion of this?
Changes my opinion because Canada was just as discriminatory as other countries.
How do you feel about Louis Riel being executed?
Slightly disappointed that he died because of all of the things he did for Manitoba.
Why was he executed?

The trial was unfair. He couldn’t express his view and the judge was biased.

Leader 150-200

  1. What do you think of Gebriels injury?
  2. How has riles religion affected his leadership?
  3. How do you think that the book is going to end?
  4. Do you think that the fight between the French and the English was fair?
  5. Who would you have fought for and why?

  1. Big moving theme towards the rest of the troops in the rebellion, because before then none of the major people got hurt.
  2. While he their were fighting and needed as much man power as possible Reil was praying with other men.
  3. We all thought he was going to die or go to jail.
  4. Not necessarily because the English had more men power and and killed a lot of the French's horses.
  5. From a readers perspective I would probably fight for the Metis because they are the most sympathetic.

Illuminator For Pages 151 to 200

“I’m thinking we should send out two men with a white flag to talk to the mounties. that’ll   provide a distraction this line of trees well surround them” page 154
The reason i picked this quote is because i thought it was important to see how Louis Riel’s rebellion planned attacks on the canadian government.

“Why thats terrible wire them back tell them that were sending out at least 2,000 canadian troops by train” page 162
This was spoken by the prime minister John A Macdonald as he hears the news about the attacks that the rebellion did to canadian mounties. I believe this quote is important because the 2,000 canadian soldiers that John A Macdonald would send would affect Louis Riel and the rebellion quite a lot.

“Those are indian tactics. god doesn’t want us to use savagery” page 165
I thought that this quote was very interesting because as the reader we learn about how much the religious experience Louis Riel had in the mental asylum affects his decisions in how to lead his men in the rebellion.

“You encourage the men in your way, and ill do it in mine” page 189
I also picked this quote because i thought it was very interesting to see how Louis Riel changed over time. In the beginning Louis Riel was man who lead his people into battle and decisions in a very practical way. Now Louis Riel is making more peaceful decisions and his placing a lot of his decisions on faith.

“There is a hell, but it will not last forever, eventually every sinner will be reconciled with god, and everyone will live in heaven” page 192
I found this quote very interesting because of how the message was all very metaphorical and how Louis Riel looks at the world.

Illuminator for pages 100 to 150

“Im the prophet of the new world” page 113
The reason i found this quote important is because this shows how Louis Riel now believes he is a prophet sent from god. This is important because it would change his ways of thinking of how to lead the rebellion towards Canada.

“Besides being able to help the metis of the st laurent area, we might also be able to get money from the canadian government” page 128
In this part of the book Louis Riel is having an argument with his wife. His wife argues with Louis Riel not to go and lead the rebellion but then Louis Gives his reasons for why he believes he should lead  the rebellion.

“It’s not like before, when you were single, now you're married with two young children” page128
This quote is important as during an argument with Louis Riel, Louis Riel’s wife gives a very good reason as to why leading the rebellion will not be like how it was before the mental asylum.

“The canadian government promised to teach us agriculture if we gave them our land and went to live on reserves” page 131
This line is spoken from some first nations on to why they are not happy with the canadian government. The reason they give is a very valid reason as the canadian government gave them false truths and did not keep to their word to what they would to give to the first nations.

“The half-breeds in the north-west are close to rebelling- riel is leading them now, and i'm sure he’ll get them to take over a fort or something soon” page  136
In this quote John A Macdonald's assistant is worried about Louis Riel and what he will able to do because he is leading the rebellion again.
